Walmart Debuts Revamped Baby Registry

To make it easier for customers to register for baby gifts, accessories and supplies, Walmart introduced a new baby registry after taking steps such as rolling out an online shopping experience for the nursery. The registry comes with new personalization features and the ability to manage it with mobile enhancements, Walmart said in an online post.

Walmart U.S. eCommerce Vice President and General Manager of Baby Lauren Uppington said in the post, “When talking with customers, we kept hearing one key theme — that starting a baby registry is incredibly overwhelming and they’d like a more filtered list to begin their planning. So, we’ve made it easier for parents to create, manage and add items to their registry, all while adding a personal touch.”

Hoo the Owl, a chatbot, is included in the new registry. By asking registrants questions such as the preferred nursery theme, due date and gender, Hoo pre-populates the registry with a customized selection. In the event that a shopper selects the theme of modern grey nursery, the Chicco KeyFit 30 Infant Car Seat in Orion grey might become a part of her list in one case. The retailer is also letting shoppers manage the registry with mobile enhancements: Registrants can use Siri to open the registry, for instance.

The news comes as Walmart is offering Hello Bello exclusively at its stores and its website (and that of the brand). The brand seeks to focus on value through its pricing and has help from celebrity Hollywood co-founders Dax Shepard and Kristen Bell. The brand planned to roll out 10 items with a price range starting at just under $2 to approximately $24.

In a February announcement from the retailer, Shepard said, “Parents shouldn’t have to choose between what’s good for their baby and good for their budget. That’s why we couldn’t ask for a better exclusive retail partner than Walmart, who is making it possible for us to offer premium products at a non-premium price.”
