CellPoint Mobile, a provider of digital payment solutions for the travel industry, said it will enable multiple solutions for low cost carrier Viva Air, making it the first Latin American airline to offer Google Pay and Apple Pay, according to a company release.
Viva Air is a group of low cost carriers in Peru and Columbia that were created by Irelandia Aviation. The Viva Air network will carry about 7.5 million passengers in 2019 and has 21 international destinations.
CellPoint Mobile said it will fast track the deployment of Google Pay, Apple Pay, MasterPass and Visa Checkout in tandem with Ingenico, which is the current payments provider for Viva Air.
“As Columbia’s first low-cost airline, we want to lead the air travel experience in Latin America by innovating quickly while keeping costs low for our customers,” Kevin Weber, chief products officer at Viva Air. “Launching these leading digital payments methods is imperative for us to better serve our customers as 65% of our users search for their travel options on mobile devices.”
